Fluoride
I think the reason some people oppose to putting fluoride in the drinking water is that they are afraid that too much fluoride will be added and their teeth will decay rather than get stronger. Another reason why people may oppose fluoridation is it leaves a brown stain on your teeth, which most people do not find attractive.
I think adding fluoride in the water is a good thing. I mean i don’t think it hurts anything, and so i think it can’t hurt to add fluoride to water. It helps strengthen your teeth, and that’s just what some people need. As long as you don’t add too much fluoride to the water, it wouldn’t be bad for you so adding a little just to keep your teeth healthy would be fine.
A long time ago, people scrubbed their teeth with burnt bread or made their own paste. They also used powder to clean teeth and freshen their breath. Charcoal was used as well for tooth cleansing purposes. Later, people made more efficient toothpastes. They had to make sure the toothpaste had sodium fluoride and not calcium phosphates, because early toothpastes had calcium phosphates and sodium fluoride didn’t work well in the calcium phosphates. Before that though, the manufacturers paired stannous fluoride with calcium pyrophosphate. Now toothpaste contains the main ingredient of sodium monofluorophosphate.
The side effect I would be most worried about is the tooth decay. With too much fluoride, your teeth will decay and you will never know if you have too much fluoride until it is too late. Then your teeth actually decay- or break down, and that is what I would be most worried about. The brown stains could be fixed with the whiting strips that we have now.
